About 3 hours after The Associated Press projected Biden’s victory in Pennsylvania– offering him enough electoral votes to surpass the limit of 270 to win the presidency– advocates of Biden and running mate Sen. Kamala Harris began to appear on the edge of Lake Eola, a popular downtown park that features strollers and swans– and celebrants.
Holding signs, waving flags, whooping it up, and using masks, Biden advocates based on the pathway along Rosalind Avenue, shouting “Biden!” and “Say goodbye to Trump!” They made noise at passing vehicle drivers, who honked back– sometimes stopping in the middle of the moderately busy downtown street to take images or chant along.
Sam Graper pulled up in a black pickup loaded with flags that touted rainbow colors and his option for president. He stood in the back of the pickup and yelled, waving a mini American flag and shooting up the crowd even more.
“I am simply your typical Biden supporter, someone who is searching for more equality, decency, and fairness,” Graper told Spectrum News 13.
Before you understood it, a positive Latino band appeared, including diversity and event to the crowd.
The festivities happened as a group called Florida For All revealed it would perform a National Day of Action in event of Biden at websites throughout Florida, including Lake Eola. A group called Organize Florida also played a role here, directing Biden advocates on a celebratory march from Lake Eola Park to Orlando Municipal Government, where they would hear speeches from dignitaries.
Chevalier Lovett, Organize Florida’s senior vice president and handling director, told crowd participants that it was a wedding day for a variety of groups, including LGBTQ.
“And I don’t learn about you all, but I’m truly excited about having a sis in the White House,” Lovett stated of Harris, who would be the very first woman of color to become vice president.
“This is also an event about accountability, due to the fact that this is when the work starts,” Lovett told the crowd. “Now we require to hold our folks liable. Biden sits in the White House due to the fact that of us, and now it’s time for him to have to work for us.”
