SANFORD, Fla.– A Seminole High School trainee and football player was eliminated in a crash Sunday, school officials stated.
In a letter to moms and dads and trainees Monday, Seminole High School Principal Dr. Jordan Rodriguez stated Zi’Erric Wynn, 18, of Sanford, passed away in an auto accident.
Rodriguez stated Zi’Erric Wynn was a member of the SHS football household and cherished by his colleagues and coaches.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the deadly crash was reported at 11 a.m. near Orange Boulevard and Oregon Street.
Troopers stated a 19-year-old who has never had a driver’s license was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Impala, with an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old in the cars and truck. Rodriguez identified the 18-year-old as Zi’Erric Wynn.
The FHP stated the Impala was taking a trip at a high rate of speed and hydroplaned before striking a power pole. Zi’Erric Wynn was taken to a healthcare facility, where he passed away.
The motorist suffered small injuries and the 16-year-old was unscathed, the FHP stated.
None of the 3, all of whom belong, were wearing a safety belt, according to an FHP report.
Shirley Wynn stated she’s grieving the loss of her grandson. She stated Zi’Erric Wynn was currently being hired by college scouts.
“He wasn’t doing anything incorrect and I have to accept that it was his time to go,” Shirley Wynn stated. “Words can’t even describe that feeling when I looked at that cars and truck. All I understand is that cars and truck took my grandbaby life.”
Seminole High head football coach Eric Lodge stated the team is honoring him at their very first home game this Friday, and they’re devoting this year’s season to Zi’Erric Wynn.
“We have actually purchased helmet decals for them and we’ll have jerseys out that are his at the game,” Lodge stated. “It’s a little down around here. He was a huge part of the football household.”
Delvin Ingram is Zi’Erric Wynn’s buddy and they played football together.
“I’m going to commit whatever I do from here on out to him. Finish school, graduate, go on and succeed in life and represent.”
Charges are pending versus the motorist, the FHP report stated. Troopers are investigating.
